One of the houses is over 100yrs old and the 2nd around 70, to look at them now you would think they have just been built but somehow with loads of traditional character and charm.

They are absolutely stunning to look at and very picturesque, they also come with 5000sqmtrs of gorgeous land and heaps of outbuildings and barns.

The Village

Palamartsa was build on ancient settlements over 300 years ago, it had over 3000 inhabitants up until 10 years ago and now is home to around 600 people, this gives the village its dreamy spacious and peaceful calm.

The villagers are of Bulgarian decent and are very proud of their land and homes. They are very traditional and you will often see them driving their donkeys and carts to the bountiful fields to get their produce and do a hard days work.

The streets are tree lined with various fruit and nut trees and can be picked and eaten most of the year round, the villagers are happy for you to make use of all the surplus goodies. You will often see geese, chickens, ducks, goats, sheep and cows hanging around the streets which gives the village an ultimate homely feeling.

It has 3 great bars a good Bulgarian restaurant and 4 shops which sell everything you could possibly need. You will find over 7 natural springs located at various locations in the village, the water is fresh, clean, delicious and free of course.

There is no through traffic within the village which is a big plus due to it being a single built village with no through roads to any other. You will not find fast cars, bikes or bad emissions.

The Property

You are greeted at the front of the property by magnificent views over the great hills and forests of which have over 6 types of tree, they include Hazelnut, Pine and Oak.

Outside the front of the house you have your own car parking area or loading bays. It has 2 double barn entrances at each end of the property and at present it is used as an equestrian centre so the horses are taken out of one end straight onto the rolling hills, meadows and open space.

Outside has been finished of superbly, it has complete insulation on the outside walls and has been property rendered it is quite something to look at, it seems to go on forever as the two houses and two large barns have all been joined together.

Once inside the main double door you are greeted by a beautiful covered courtyard with lots of outbuildings to the right and a wonderful manicured garden ahead, many of the trees have recently been planted which include, pine, willow, peach, apple and heaps of Bulgarian roses, it is a very pretty sight.

The 1st house has lots going for it and has been completely renovated apart from one room, although it has got a bathroom, it has 6 huge rooms, 4 bathrooms and a small under stair room.

Every room has plumbing for the bathrooms and for the radiators, it has also been professionally insulated and feels warm even on the coldest nights without any help of additional heat. All of the rooms are bright and airy and upstairs is a lovely little sun terrace to enjoy that afternoon sunset.

From this house it takes you onto the connection building which contains a lovely Mehana (Bulgarian eatery place) it is completely covered with new wood and antique tiles to match the house, has a lovely plumbed bar area and is really characterful, from here you can look out onto the spectacular garden and beyond, the whole area has been paved with a Bulgarian slate and has been finished beautifully.

Attached to this area is a service area which includes all the electric and water supplies, and also lots of space for a laundry room, this was one of the old barns that has been converted.

Next we come to the 100 yr old house which is simply beautiful, it has a lovely rock/wood and brick contrast and has been kept very traditional, again it is all fully plumbed and ready to go with radiators etc. This house has a huge downstairs cellar/lounge, the walls are fully rock and are incredible. This house is near finished; it just needs a very small amount of work. It also has a lovely balcony/veranda.

Attached to this house are the stables, there are two double stables now with one horse in each, they are too both fully insulated and have there own water supplys and heating, the have direct access to the pasture and to the barn exit of the house to the hills. And then beyond this more outbuildings and a huge hay barn.

Nearest Town

Popovo, is only 8kms away, here you will find a daily farmers market, even though you probably will not need it due to the amount grown in the village. Many well stocked supermarkets, a running track and stadium and of course a great swimming pool. On Fridays you can visit the big market which sells almost anything you could ever want to buy. It also boasts one of the best museums for small towns of Bulgaria and has many attractions including a great wine making centre, many castles and old ruins.

Popovo is within Targovishte which is the main wine making district of Bulgaria, and it is good believe me.

Popovo also has many good restaurants and bars, some with some great live music. It has great bus services to all major citys and to Turkey and Greece. It also has a train station.

Who are we

We moved into this lovely village around 6 months ago and sometimes have to pinch our selves to believe that we are not in heaven. We are currently developing a permaculture and self-sustainable farm and refurbishing our house using traditional techniques. At present we are the only UK couple in the village which is nice of course but if you are looking for a great place to get away from it all then this would be a perfect opportunity for you.

Other business

Bulgaria is soon to take on the Euro, it is said that in 2 years you could add quite a considerable amount to the current price of your house if you ever wanted it for investment reasons. Rental is also good in this area due to the investments that are taking place nearby so if you wanted this as a holiday home then the rest of the time you could get an income this way. The roads from Popovo to the major attractions and city’s are great; it takes about an hour to get to Varna which is the closed airport. It has been heard that a new airport is being built in Veliko Turnovo which is only 45mins away. However we are not sure when it will be completed. We require a very small deposit to secure the property. You would then need to come and visit us to do the transfer of the property although this can be done from the UK but it is a smoother ride to do it at the source.
