It seemed too good to be true and I still remember my first batch of uncleaned Roman coins. Looking back, they were bad coins that I paid too much for, but a valuable lesson was learned. No one is going to intentionally sell you an ancient gold coin for a few dollars! One has to keep in mind the uncleaned coins usually go through 4-5 different sortings before they reach our shores. However, it doesn't mean there aren't real treasures waiting to be found! Rare coins, unknown issues & obscure emperors are just a few of the exciting possibilities awaiting you in this fascinating hobby.
